| Tiivistelmä: | This article recognizes fishery resources as risk-bearing capital assets that can provide benefits to the society indefinitely. It focuses on the reorientation of fisheries management from single species to portfolios of species. The portfolio approach to multispecies fisheries management has two parts. Firstly, the framework evaluates tradeoffs in fishery benefits resulting from ecology or unspecialized fishing technologies. Secondly, there has to be property rights institutions which create long time –horizons among harvesters. |
