| Tiivistelmä: | The rapidly growing UK market for camcorders is examined. This market now includes three basic formats: full size VHS camcorders, compact VHS machines and VHS-C, and 8-mm camcorders. The market grew by 40 percent in volume in 1991 with value sales increasing by 19 percent to GBP 357m at retail. The growth has been stimulated by a fall in average prices. Compact models dominate new sales, with 8-mm accounting for 50 percent of new devices sold. Sony leads the market. Strong growth is expected to continue for the next two-three years, with sales expected to near one million units a year as average prices continue to fall. |
