Tiivistelmä:In these markets new household formation , movement in the housing market and consumer confidence are all important. All have been significantly lacking during much of the 1990s. Exports have become less buoyant as their main markets - those of the EU - have themselves suffered. In 1995, the increase in total consumer spending on 1994 at constant prices was 2.32%, slightly lower even than the modest rise in 1994. Spending on durables, other than cars, rose by over 6% in 1995, suggesting that the sector as a whole continued to play an important role in consumers' lives.
