Tiivistelmä:The rate of sales growth for artificial sweeteners has slowed down in recent years, between 1991 and 1995 sales increased 18 per cent by value, compared with 56 per cent between 1986 and 1990. Sales reached o58 mn in 1995. Although in volume terms saccharin-based sweeteners still hold 73 per cent of the market, by value the market has moved in favour of non-saccharin products, which accounted for 64 per cent of sales value in 1995. Tablets are the most widely used artificial sweeteners, accounting for 85 per cent of volume and 65 per cent of value sales. Approximately 23 per cent of the adult population use artificial sweeteners on a regular basis , compared with 18 per cent a decade ago.
