Tiivistelmä:The bulk of direct insurance selling takes place over the telephone and by definition excludes the use of an intermediary. Telephone-based direct writers have focused primarily on personal lines general insurance business, principally motor insurance and household insurance. Motor insurance has come to be regasrded by consumers as a commodity product and the success of the direct writers has been considerable. The success of direct selling in the general insurance sector has encouraged some offices to apply similar techniques to the marketing of selected life insurance and even pension and some investment products, although these remain embryonic markets.
