The market was worth 312 mn pounds in 1996, up 4% on the previous year but only marginally up on the 1991 level. Growth has been hindered by the effects of the recession, heavy dependence on replacement purchasing and the fact that the bedroom is a low priority when it comes to spending on the home. Between 1996 and 2001 the value of the duvets, pillows and blankets market is forecast to increase by 17%, to reach 365 mn pounds. Growth will continue to be restricted by price cutting and low priority which the consumer places on purchase of these products. |
