| Tiivistelmä: | An increasing share of the UK spirits market was taken by imported whisky/whiskey over the last decade, although sales remain modest when compared with those of Scotch. sales of US whiskey rose fourfold between 1987 and 1997 from 80,000 cases to 320,000 cases. Irish whiskey made 105% increase in a decade which is impressive in the context of a decline in overall spirits consumption. Canadian whisky has seen volumes rise by almost 130%. At retail prices the imported whisky market was worth around £220 mn in 1997. |
