Tiivistelmä:The number of national brewers has reduced from six to four in the UK. This article analyses which kind of effects mergers have on brand competition and pricing in the brewing industry. The brand-substitution possibilities are found using semiparametric instrumental-variable estimation. The results show that competition in UK markets for draft beers is quite local, and that brands of the same product type compete most vehemently.
