Tiivistelmä: | International business communication relies on technological (here as: tech.) means to convey messages with the help of symbols and images. Examples of these tech. media are PowerPoint (here as: PP.) and clip art (as: c-a). From time to time, miscommunication can have severe consequences on negotiations and business deals. Using data from the Clip Art Recognition Test (CART), this study examines the effect of cultural and linguistic influence on the comprehension of c-a. meaning used in PP. presentations. A sample of 142 native and non-native English-speaking (as: E-sp-g.) professionals and college students (here as: profs-and-stunds.) responded to an online questionnaire (CART) about their understanding of multiple c-a. pictures carrying idiomatic visual expressions relevant to the American culture. It is found that when both native and non-native E-sp-g. profs-and-stunds. view the same c-a. in presentations, there is a significant difference btw. the recognition scores of the groups. |
