Tiivistelmä: | In this study the author researches how journalists from the national press commentate on European affairs and their self-perceptions about the possibilities and constraints facing them. The papers main focus is whether commentating on Europe differs from commentating on national affairs. The author constructs a model to help assesĀ“ types of political advocacy. In addition an empirical study is conducted. The empirical study is based on interviews with sample of journalist from four different type of newspapers, from seven European countries and with four different journalist roles. The primary finding is that journalist perceive themselves as taking an educational mode of raising public awareness rather than a political "partisan" or "ideological campaign" mode. |
