| Tiivistelmä: | The purpose of this article is to find out why firms come into existence. The paper starts from the assumption of firms emerging due to profit seeking idividuals, asymmentrically dispersed knowledge and entrepreneurs establishing subjective means-end frameworks for exploiting new business opportunities. An entrepreneuship perspective of the firm is also determined. Based on a set of propositions addressing the effects of cognitive incongruence and cognitive incompetence on the exploitation of new combinations the article suggests that other market participants' being unable to understand or accept the entrepreneur's subjective means-end framework leads to internalization of activities. The article introduces the idea of developing a theory to explain modes of action based on subjective world views and an entrepreneurship-based theory of the firm. |
