| Tiivistelmä: | Adding to earlier reviews by the author of the changing roles and identities (hereafter as: ids.) of professional (here as: prof-al.) staff in U.K. higher education (as: h-e.), this paper builds on a categorization of prof-al. staff ids. as having bounded, cross-boundary and unbounded characteristics. Based on a study of over 50 prof-al. managers in the U.K., Australia and the United States (U.S.), described is a further category of blended prof-als. with mixed backgrounds and portfolios, including elements of both prof-al. and academic activity. Introduced is the concept of third space as an emergent area btw. academic and prof-al. domains. ... Finally, it is proposed that third space working may be indicative of future trends in prof-al. ids. |
