| Tiivistelmä: | The proposed network approach simultaneously decides a job sequence and the level of overtime, over a finite planning horizon in a single machine job shop environment, and provides a significant advantage over hierarchical treatments of this scheduling and production problem. It is assumed that a machine can be operated at regular time and overtime rates at any production period. The problem is to simultaneously determine the overtime utilization levels and nonpreemptive job sequence such that a good tradeoff is realized between overtime cost and the tardiness penalties. An approximate method is developed, based on relaxation to a capacitated transshipment problem. |
