Tiivistelmä: | The last decade has been an upsurge in Japanese foreign direct investment in the USA manufacturing sector. A great number of these investments have been joint ventures with American partners. Four types of these joint ventures are identified: joint ventures by adoption (acquisition of part of the equity in an entrepreneurial high-technology company); by rebirth (foreign partner transfers technology to an ailing division of a large American firm); by procreation (a truly new venture which is born out of a marriage between the technical andÖor market know-how of the partners); through family ties (this evolve out of a buyer-supplier relationship). In-depth interviews with top managers in 21 joint ventures are analyzed. |
