| Tiivistelmä: | The conventional Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) has its shortcomings in the form of results that can be subject to multiple interpretations. This article tries to overcome those by integrating LCA concept with Quality Function Deployment (QFD), which is a widely used industrial quality management tool. The result is a novel analytical approach, Integrated Industrial Ecology Function Deployment (12-EFD), which can be applied to assess the environmental impact of alternative technologies in correlation with their economic aspects and performance. The authors use a computer display technology, where liquid crystal display flat-panel technology is replacing the traditional one, as a case study to further develop their approach. A sensitivity analysis is used to test the validity and feasibility of their methodology. |
