| Tiivistelmä: | The effects of science and technology on society are now so all-pervasive that technology assessment as an instrument for parliament is no longer an option, it is a necessity. The study largely focuses upon the views expressed at a recent technology assessment meeting of the Council of Europe. It is attempted to evaluate technology assessment needs in Europe and to define, albeit in consensus form, the nature of technology assessment itself. The @forgeing distillation of national viewpoints on technology assessment highlights the difficulties in seeking a common model to accommodate the disparate needs of European nations. The growing public awareness of developments in technology created desire for greater public participation in decisions. |
