| Tiivistelmä: | An approach to the elicitation of impacts of expert systems by a cross-section of women is discussed. The approach demonstrates that it is possible for people with little knowledge of a given technology to comment on and have feelings about its likely consequences for them. It is suggested that this activity contributes to broadening the cultural awareness of technological change. Even a nascent technology, like expert systems, evokes deep-rooted concerns and feelings towards technology. Thinking of futures with expert systems gives another dimension to technological change and highlights fundamental questions as to whether this technology is needed, in what directions it could be developed, eg. educational or medical uses. |
