Tiivistelmä: | This report covers the market for women's perfumes and fragrances including perfumes, eaux de toilette/eaux de cologne, classic colognes, lavender waters, extracts and cream perfumes. Sales of women's perfumes and fragrances declined for the second consecutive year, falling by 4.1% in nominal terms over the previous year to a value of L521 billion, which translates into a real value decline of 9%. The downturn in sales is attributable to the poor economic climate and market saturation through prolific launch activity. The market should begin to recover some ground from 1994 onwards as the trend towards mass market distribution and away from perfumeries opens up the market to a broader population of women. Sales will be helped too by further growth in employment among women giving rise to greater spending power and more occasions to use scent. |
