| Tiivistelmä: | The small Austrian population of 7.8 million is spread fairly thinly across the country, with a much lower density than in the neighbouring Switzerland and southern Germany. This is partly attributable to the mountainous character of the topography, but the rural bias of the countryside also contributes to its attractions for pleasant touring and restful breaks. The main centre of attraction is the Viennese metropolitan region, with a population of 1.5 million. |
