| Tiivistelmä: | This survey examines the European retail market for tobacco in France, Italy, the UK, Germany, Spain and Benelux under the period 1993-1997 for current data and 1997-2002 for the future outlook. Tobacco consumption is showing downwards trend as anti-smoking grows and health concerns impact the tobacco market. Germany and the UK have the largest tobacco markets worth USD22,224 million and USD20,126 million respectively in 1997. The vast majority of tobacco markets are characterised by declining volume consuption levels and rising market value. |
