| Tiivistelmä: | We define a class of feedforward networks by the property that the mapping error of the network only is caused by the 1. hidden layer. For these networks the generalisation property as well as the graceful degradation property can be related to the forming of clusters in the input-space. These clusters may be constructed having a concrete application situation in mind, thus allowing for interpretation and controlled generalisation of the network. On the other hand, having a sufficient set of input-output relations but insufficient theoretical understanding of the input output dependencies these networks may stimulate the development of theoretical explanations. |
