Tiivistelmä:This article deals with the concept of labor process theory. The last decade has seen the importation of postmodenrist ideas into the labor process theory (LPT) debate, providing a welcome tonic to the essentialism inherent in traditional LPT's humanist conception of subjectivity. While research on control and resistance in the 1970s developed insightful accounts of different forms of class struggle, it did so by seeking explanations for these phenomen from an exclusively Marxian perspective characterized by totalizing accounts of power. Similarly, feminist theories have been brought to bear on LPT, helping us understand the gendered nature of capitalist relations of production and pringing more women into the LPT discussion. Yet LPI continues to be characterized by problems that hamper its ability to make an even richer intellectual and, particularly, political impact. This special issue contains articles by several contributors to LPT. The author will discuss LPT's future prospects through an analysis of the contributions to this issue of International Studies of Management & Organization and conclude with his own ideas about where LPT should go from here.
