| Tiivistelmä: | The effects of office automation on the function of middle management is analyzed. Characteristics of new office technology, information processing, and technique of communication are described. Consequences of integrated use of modern equipment are mentioned. A comparison is made between the different opinions based on empirical investigations. The first group of authors forecast a loss of function on the level of middle management. The other group of experts prognosticate a shift in proportions of functional areas. A theoretical interpretation of trends is given with special attention to coordination, control, and decision-making. The main trend can be seen in the growing objectivity. |
