| Tiivistelmä: | The paper presents the story of European integration continued in 1999. Among the most significant milestones were 1) establishment of the Euro, 2) further progress, particularly in large enterprises, toward electronic business 3) steps taken by the European Union to include up to 13 new members in the coming years 4) the Union's agreement to measures which will accelerate the creation of a European single market 5) an increase in cross-border mergers and acquisitions. These forces are combining with others, such as industry restructuring and convergence and greater focus on shareholder value, to alter fundamentally the business environment across Europe. |
