It serves the research and education communities and now private corporations also use it as a wide area network (WAN) to interconnect their local area networks (LANs). It can be seen as an experiment in the development , deployment and use of high-speed networks, and as such can provide guidance for the shaping of the future national telecommunications infrastructure. |
