Tiivistelmä:This paper aims at exploring the mechanisms of knowledge management (KM) for innovation (henceforth as: invn.) and at providing an approach for companies to leverage KM activities into continuous innovation (herein as: c-invn.) Based on a literature review of multidisciplinary fields, the concepts of knowledge, KM and invn. are explored. The physical, human and technological perspectives of KM are detected with the identification of two core activities for invn.: knowledge creation and knowledge usage. An essential requirement for c-invn., that is, an internalization phase, is defined. The perspectives of systems thinking and human-centering are adopted for providing a comprehensive understanding about the KM mechanisms for invn.
A networking process of c-invn. based on KM is proposed by including the phase of internalization. Identified are three sources of organizational knowledge assets in invn. Based on the two core activities of invn., a meta-model and a macro process of KM are proposed in order to model the KM mechanisms for c-invn. etc.
