| Tiivistelmä: | The article deals with an issue which, though of considerable practical interest, has been somewhat neglected in academic literature: Compared to the classical bank mortgage, are the mortgages combined with a life insurance policy that are offered by assurance companies a competitive alternative option to finance owner-occupied housing? A model is developed to answer this question. The conclusion reached in the article is that - contrary to dissenting opinions voiced by some practioners - there are, in fact, a number of practical and realistic situations in which the assurance company's mortgage proves to be the better financing facility. |
