Tiivistelmä:The problem of what impact information technology (IT) will have on business organizations is addressed. The four major classes of impact are overviewed on the basis of the literature. 1. Changes of the organization's internal structure, affecting roles, power, and hierarchy. 2. The emergence of team-based, problem-focused work groups as the primary organizational form. 3. Gradual shift to more market-based organizational forms and less hierarchy. 4. Growing business integration supported by systems and data integration. Researchers at MIT's Center for Information Systems Research have tried to refocus the issue. They found that the various schools of thought must be synthesized aiming at the management of network-like interdependencies.
