Tiivistelmä:The development of the Management of Culture is described. It is argued that management seeks to close the gap between the employees' requisite and actual performance, not only by mechanisms of "primary" control but also by imposing its own belief systems as a "strong" culture. However, such belief systems are never successfully transmitted beyond the boundaries of management to the intended recipients, resulting in management's ultimate isolation. Evidence is presented to support this proposition. Organisational culture and subcultures are contrasted. Some performance measures are highlighted. Political examples are provided. The consequences for "cultural managers" are summarized.
