| Tiivistelmä: | Volvo's new "Uddevala" production system , developed in Sweden, emphasizes a supportive, democratic environment to make workers innovative as well as productive. The question is whether this new worker-friendly system can compete with the Japanese "Lean" system, which attempted to eliminate numerous negative effects in the automobile industry with innovative work teams. In Japan high pressure has perpetuated the severe human costs. The author describes various advantages of the Volvo's Uddevala System comparing them with the Japanese achievements. |
