| Tiivistelmä: | Fundamental to the approach of TQM is to design processes and products, and controlling processes, so that failures do not occur, rather than inspecting the final product so as to remove defective items. 14 companies in the UK and Canada were visited to investigate the applicability of TQM to the research and development function, to find out if TQM was being implemented in research and development, and to consider any differences from TQM as applied in the manufacturing industry. Interviews were conducted with managers and members of staff who had responsibility for quality and the implementation of TQM. |
