Tiivistelmä: | Bank of Scotland has pioneered the development of alternative distribution channels for retail banking - notably in its use of direct banking. Again, Bank of Scotland did this because it had to rather than because it chose to. In the mid-1970s, when it began to compete with the English banks for English customers, Bank of Scotland had no branch network in England. So it decided to do without one, and rely instead on postal and telephone banking. This ability to turn disadvantage to advantage is perhaps the distinguishing feature of Bank of Scotland, and it owes much to the bank's Governor and group chief executive, Sir Bruce Pattullo. |
