Tiivistelmä:In the 19th century, Great Britain led the world's Industrial Revolution and was the world's wealthiest nation. Today , manufacturing investment and productivity in Britain lags well behind its fellow industrial nations. However, manufacturing companies from abroad, such as the Japanese automotive company, Nissan Motor Manufacturing UK (NMUK), demonstrates that plants in Britain can again set world standards. NMUK has fused the Fordist and lean systems to form a hybrid practice that is unique to Britain. Despite its problems, this system could be the first step toward a new manufacturing model.
