Tiivistelmä:Role plays were used extensively on a course concerned with Equal Opportunities. The trainer involved used them because she felt "it was necessary to get people really involved in order to learn the realities of these situations." She hoped they would help to develop skills, and also insights, or what the author calls "ah-ha" effect which occurs, sometimes accidentally, but which can be built in. The author's discussions with trainers, educators and developers show that the basis for their choice is usually one or more of the following: "I like it", "It works", "Lectures are bad", The case method is very good at developing analysis", "Role plays are good for enhancing skills", "Outdoor courses develop team and leadership skills".
