Tiivistelmä:The author of the article states that the Comedie-Frangaise is one of the most prestigious institutions in France, indeed in the world. This theatre company traces its origins back to Moliere, who was forced by a decree of Louis XIV to merge his company of actors, known as "la troupe du roi a I'Hotel de Guenegaud," with the rival Hotel de Bourgogne troupe. This case study looks at the history and workings of this legendary theatre and examines the contribution of Jean-Pierre Miquel, who served as its Executive Director from 1993 to 2001. While preserving the institution's traditions, Miquel restructured the Comedie-Frangaise by having its status amended, rejuvenated its repertoire, increased the number of its actors, integrated two new theatres and expanded the company's activities.
