Tiivistelmä:The difficulty of finding qualified information technology (IT) workers has been one of the most important challenges facing employers in recent years. Employer representatives assert that the cause is a severe shortage of workers, while economists who have analyzed the field argue that the problem is at worst only temporary, and that nothing needs to be done. The author consider these arguments and conclude that while employers face real, long-term problems in finding IT workers, the causes may have less to do with a shortfall of supply than with the way in which IT workers are managed. The apparent shortage of IT professionals that most employers experience is at least in part the result of poor management practices that drive employees out of the industry.
