Tiivistelmä:Advances are made on previous research comparing the dialectical inquiry, devil's advocacy, and consensus approaches. A laboratory experiment using managers experienced in strategic planning is employed. Groups using dialectical inquiry and devil's advocacy perform better than groups using consensus. Members of both groups report greater reevaluation of their own assumptions and recommendations than members of consensus groups. Consensus approach makes for greater acceptance of group decisions. The most compelling finding is the absence of significant difference between dialectical inquiry and devil's advocacy with respect to performance, group members' reaction, critical reevaluation, and duration.
