Tiivistelmä:The standard vehicle-scheduling problem is deterministic, assuming that all factors are known with certainty before scheduling. There are problems which contain uncertainty. The focus is on problems where there is uncertainty in the customers to be visited. If some customers do not want visits in a particular period, three alternatives are: to continue with the same fixed routes; to bypass customers not wanting visits, and to use semi-fixed routes, if the number of such customers is small; to move to variable routes by using completely new schedules, as the number of customers omitted rises. If rescheduling is done, there may be savings is distance travelled and number of vehicles used, rising linearly with the number of customers omitted.
