| Tiivistelmä: | Mergers and acquisitions and in-house research and development can be considered as alternatives of technology development. Because of an increasing number of mergers and acquisitions in the US, the effects of these transactions on research and development are analyzed by numerous US-American studies. The background of these studies is the assumption that the decline of international competitiveness of the United States could be caused partly by the increasing number of mergers and acquisitions. The main purpose of this article is a critical analysis of the results of existing studies. The conception of the studies is discussed and implications for further research are presented. |
