Tiivistelmä:This paper discusses the introduction of total quality management (TQM) -principles in specific R&D context. It has been argued that TQM is a powerful concept to induce cross-functional integration and problem-framing along the innovation trajectory. This implies that TQM principles be designed and developed in alignment with the systematic requirements of the innovation process. A purely mechanistic approach toward TQM will fail since it neglects the systematic nature of the innovation process. Quality principles can stretch the boundaries of framing, defining, and organizing R&D activities.
