Tiivistelmä:This paper develops an integrative model to study the determinants of post-adoption (hereafter as: p-adp.) stages of innovation (here as: innv./innvs.) diffusion, using enterprise digital transformation as an example of technology-enabled innvs. Four innv. characteristics (as: chars.), that is, relative advantage, compatibility, costs and security concern, and four contextual factors, that is, technology competence, organization size, competitive pressure and partner readiness are specified as determinants of p-adp. usage. The usage as an intermediate link is postulated to impact on firm performance. Based on a dataset of 1415 companies from six European countries, the proposed model is tested. It is found that the innv. needs to be used extensively in value-chain activities before its impact can be realized. Among the innv. chars., the compatibility is found to be the strongest driver, and security concern to outweigh cost as a usage inhibitor. Among the contextual variables, technology competence, partner readiness and competitive pressure significantly drive e-business usage, and the structural inertia of large firms tends to slow down its penetration. Summa summarum, the results indicate that innv. diffusion can be better understood by including both innv. chars. and contextual factors.
