| Tiivistelmä: | Several results in relation to experience with sociotechnical work systems are reviewed and evaluated. The success rate of interventions in organization design is found to be decreasing in spite of the spread of the associated paradigms. Lack of success is attributed more to changes in the economic or sociotechnical macrosystem rather than to local organizational factors. Several long wave theories are briefly reviewed and contrasted. Particular attention is paid to cycles of psychological, social and technological change and innovation. Emphasis is placed on the possible mismanagement of advanced information technology. |
