| Tiivistelmä: | The dynamics of technological development are such that, in high-tech industries, the timing of both the development and launching of innovative products will be determined in large measures by the competitive environment. For firms whose existence depends on their powers of innovation the key strategic problem is to decide whether to strive for market leadership or rather follow in the footsteps of their competitors. The strategy of technological leadership is no guarantee of innovational success. The decision for or against such a strategy should depend on the specific situation it faces. These conclusions are reached on the basis of a research program which examined 231 innovations in the practice. |
