Tiivistelmä:Institutional change within the firm is characterized by un- certainty. A vital consensus on values and norms stabilizes expectations on future behaviour of both , senior management and its stakeholders. Social consensus may change, but repu- tation and credibility will remain goodwill securities in the long run. They reduce complexity and may cut transaction -costs. Scientific work on lean management and business reengineering is applied to institutional change. The inter- dependence between institutional change and senior manage- ment's reputation is described as a dynamic, structural unstable equilibrium. On this issue elementary catastrophe theory is applied.
