Tiivistelmä:This paper considers the problem of privacy. Consumers want to complete protection, but e-tailers won't guarantee it. Companies need to glean information that will help target sales. Consumers want the convenience of secure e-commerce without worrying about having their identities stolen or having the aggregators of personal data knowing - and profiting form - every detail of their lives. Some high- tech companies say increased privacy demands place an undue burden on their businesses. But a privacy-friendly stance could win over more potential customers than the hard line would. As the legal wrangling proceeds, the privacy arena will see technological innovation that might help solve the problem.
