| Tiivistelmä: | The article discusses an attempt of one of the world's largest commercial banks, the State Bank of India (SBI), to transform itself to meet the demands of a rapid expansion of its business and branch network. The circumstances surrounding the decision to undertake a strategic transformation of the bank, the objectives of the transformation, the approach to achieve the transformation and some reflections on the transformation experience are covered. Some of the important factors for bank managements to take into consideration before undertaking extensive organizational changes are also touched upon. |
