Tiivistelmä:The problem this article is concerned with is the failure of many large organizations in formerly socialist countries and in public sectors of market economies to make effective, peaceful, and ethical transformation from command to market responsive organization and privatization. There are at least 3 important behavioural causes of this problem. First, organization transformation is blocked because the organization tries to change "all at once". Second, organization transformation is blocked because "all at once change" stimulates so much fear and political opposition. Third, organization transformation is blocked because the "guardian" ethics syndrome of command organization is less appropriate for market responsive organization than a "commercial" ethics syndrome. Gradual intrapreneurship (Burgelman, 1983; Nielsen et al., 1985) can serve as a peaceful and ethical transition strategy. Intrapreneurship can help bridge some of the contradictions between "commercial" vs. "guardian" ethics syndromes (Jacobs, 1992; Nielsen, 1996).
