Tiivistelmä:Introducing and utilizing teamwork in production is a gradual process of changing the company’s control system from hierarchical to discursive coordination, which leads to the challenge of higher density of communication. This is troublesome for both workers and superiors; workers need to cooperate through self-regulation and are forced to communicate more than before, superiors fearing of losing their power are forced to treat workers as experts rather than just recipients of orders. By considering the neo-institutionalistic concept of isomorphism it can be suggested that the diffusion of teamwork is a mimetic isomorphism case, but the guidelines for rationalization must always fit to the internal conditions. Organizations are cautious about new concepts like teamwork because they are structurally conservative. The concepts that are taken for granted in the company’s organizational field cannot be rejected, but that doesn’t guarantee that the implementation of the concept or practice will succeed.
