| Tiivistelmä: | The relationship between the new trade theory and trade policy is investigated. First, the importance and the key features of the new trade theory are analyzed. The main purpose of the paper is to ask why it has proved so difficult to turn the new trade theory into a recommendation for a new trade policy, and ask what, if anything, new theory can contribute to the real world. In doing so the focus of the article is on the economics of trade proper, but since a key part of the story also involves politics, the political economy of trade is also discussed. |
