| Tiivistelmä: | In this paper the author provides a concise review of the literature on cell formation aspects of design of cellular manufacturing systems. The usefulness and limitations of existing approaches are identified. These methods are based on the following approaches: coding and classification, machine-component group analysis, similarity coefficients, knowledge-based, mathematical programming, fuzzy clustering, neural networks, and heuristics. Future research directions are explored considering manufacturing requirements. |
